Marie-Rose Guelfucci

Marie-Rose Guelfucci was born in Corte in 1954 and passed away in December 2022 at the age of 68. She had just retired after a distinguished academic career, largely dedicated to classical literature, ancient history, and historiography.

A student at the École Normale Supérieure (1974-1978), she became an agrégée in classical literature and was a resident at the Fondation Thiers (1985-1988). Marie-Rose Guelfucci was appointed Maître de Conférences in 1989, then became a Professor at the University of Nice (1994) and later at the University of Franche-Comté (2003-2021). Trained under Raymond Weil and Jean Sirinelli, she specialized in Polybius and Greek historiography, as evidenced by her numerous internationally recognized works.

In addition to her personal research, Marie-Rose Guelfucci was well-known for her commitment to supporting young researchers (Fr-EDUC) and advocating for the humanities (serving on the 8th section of the CNU, a member of APLAES, and involved with the Friends of Villa Kerylos association). Her extensive contributions earned her the title of Chevalière of the Légion d'Honneur in 2021.
